Johnathan Guy

Candidate for West Wycombe & Lane End

I’m Johnathan, a young Labour candidate running to be your councillor for West Wycombe and Lane End. I am from a working-class background, raised on a council estate in Nottingham. I struggled through school and managed to get into the University of Nottingham to study Computer Science, and that one opportunity, afforded to me as a result of secure housing and a good school with supportive teachers, gave me the tools to reach where I am today. It also gave me a passion for ensuring that people are afforded the best opportunities to succeed.

Since leaving University in 2020, I’ve worked my way up in software engineering, working for companies ranging from multinationals to teams of 3. I run my own software business from here and have campaigned on youth issues such as mental health in education. I visited High Wycombe many times before settling here permanently and I moved here in no small part because I love it. It’s a beautiful market town which deserves proper representation.

West Wycombe and Lane End ward has a wonderful mix of 16th-18th century architecture, green space and vibrant communities. However like many places in our town, it faces serious challenges with parking, antisocial behaviour, and fly tipping amongst others. A century of Tory leadership of the council has led to many of these problems getting worse, not better. With an active and committed local Labour MP now representing us in Parliament, we have a brilliant opportunity to achieve real change for our town, and the best way to achieve that is by electing a Labour councillor.

As your councillor I would focus my experience, determination and passion on solving the problems the ward faces. It’s time to overturn the failing status quo.
